Today we leave Madrid and head south to the town of Toledo. Here we walk through the ancient cobbled streets to see the Gothic cathedral. We then continue through the mountains to Granada, former capital of the Moorish Kingdom of Spain. Hotel: Saray. (B,D)

Day 3 – Granada – Seville

This morning we are at leisure for further sightseeing, or perhaps join an optional excursion to the Alhambra Palace and the gardens of the Generalife, known as the gardens of Paradise? Now a beautiful drive through white villages and brilliant fields of golden sunflowers brings us to Seville, capital of Andalucía and one of the most charming cities in Spain. This evening, perhaps enjoy a Flamenco show after dinner?

Hotel: Alcora. (B,D)

Day 4 – Seville Sightseeing

This morning on our guided sightseeing tour of Seville we see the massive Cathedral, burial place of Christopher Columbus and enriched with the spoils of the New World. We pass the Moorish Giralda Tower and the Santa Cruz quarter with its flower-decked balconies, before seeing the Alcazar. Then we see the modern Expo site where the World Exhibition was held in 1992. The rest of the day is at leisure. (B,D)

Today we travel into the greenery of Portugal, and across the amazing modern Tagus Bridge to arrive in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon. Hotel: VIP Arts. (B)

Day 6 – Lisbon Sightseeing

A panoramic guided tour takes us along the spacious avenues of the Lower Town and across the tree-shaded squares. We pass beneath the hilltop Bairro Alto to the Terreiro do Paco, finest square in the city. Now our tour continues to see the modern Monument to the Discoveries and ancient Belem Tower - a fortress set originally in the middle of the river, but now left high and dry on the riverbank. This afternoon we are at leisure, perhaps shop for pottery or maybe join a optional excursion to Sintra which was the summer residence of the Kings of Portugal? (B)

Day 7 – Lisbon – Salamanca

This morning we head north to visit the Basilica at Fatima, commemorating the appearance of the Virgin Mary to three children in 1917, and one of the most important centres for the Roman Catholic faith worldwide. Then we cross the border back into Spain and continue to the 'Golden City' of Salamanca.

Hotel: Stil Salamanca. (B,D)

Day 8 – Salamanca – Madrid

This morning our Tour Director shows us the Plaza Mayor and the ancient Puente Romano bridge across the river Tormes. We continue past the Cibeles Fountain, Parliament, and cross the Puerta del Sol, before returning to our hotel. Tonight, why not try one of the local restaurants that line the Plaza Mayor?
